Kevin Carlson-Aguilar, 26, has pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to a charge of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. His plea was part of a deal with prosecutors to drop a felony charge of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.
Carlson-Aguilar will be sentenced April 4 and is facing one to three months in jail. His Vancouver defense attorney said that if he had been convicted of the more serious charge he could have been sentenced to four to five years in prison. He has been held in the Clark County Jail on $75,000 bail for 49 days, which will be subtracted from his eventual sentence.
The accused met the young victim in an online chat room in March 2009 while he was living in California, later moving into her Washougal home with her mother after beginning a relationship with the latter.
Carlson-Agilar and the girl started speaking online over various instant-messengers. The victim described the relationship as being “in love.” While chatting, Carlson-Aguilar described graphic sexual acts he intended to perform on her, and asked her for nude photos. She claims never to have sent him any. Though it is still unclear how or why, Carlson-Aguilar eventually began speaking to the victim’s mother. The mother knew his age but did know about the sexual context of his communication with her daughter, and allegedly believed him to be acting as a father figure.
The girl reported that she ended the romantic relationship with Carlson-Aguilar in October 2010. A court affidavit said that around this time, the mother started having romantic feelings for him and in February 2011 he moved to Washougal and rented a room in their home. The victim said that she and Carlson-Aguilar had no sexual contact during this time.
It is not known if the mother and the accused had a sexual relationship, though the relationship between them continued after he moved out. In January 2012 he admitted to her that he was a pedophile and had never acted on his urges. She asked that he stay away from her home.
